A native of New York City, Mike Trentalange, and his family moved to Florida in 1977. Mr. Trentalange graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota. He attended the University of Florida and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. He was named a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Florida’s Army ROTC program and received a commission in the Regular Army, serving on active duty as an officer in the United States Army until 1987.
Following his active military service, Mr. Trentalange attended law school at the University of Florida and Stetson University, where he graduated cum laude with his Juris Doctorate in 1989. During law school, Mr. Trentalange served for eight months as a volunteer extern with United States District Judge Elizabeth Kovachevich.
Mr. Trentalange began his legal career with the Tampa office of Carlton Fields, one of Florida’s oldest and most respected law firms. In 1993, Mr. Trentalange started his own practice, specializing in the representation of Plaintiffs in civil litigation. In 2000, Mr. Trentalange and Elizabeth Kelley formed the current firm Trentalange & Kelley, P.A.
Mr. Trentalange was certified as a specialist in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education and the National Board of Trial Advocacy for 22 years. His practice is focused on the representation of individuals who have suffered serious and catastrophic injuries. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Mr. Trentalange has earned many multi-million dollar settlements and awards for his clients. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has been named one of Florida’s Superlawyers since 2007. He has been rated “AV” — preeminent — by his peers and Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory since 1998.
Mr. Trentalange is a member of the Florida Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, and the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Trentalange is a licensed helicopter pilot and recently earned a Bioethics Masters degree from Harvard University. .
